Active Release Technique
Active Release Technique is a hands-on, non-invasive healing procedure that locates and breaks down scar tissue and adhesions that are caused by soft tissue injuries. When a muscle, tendon, ligament, or nerve is injured through an acute injury, repetitive microtrauma (ie: overuse), or not receiving enough oxygen (hypoxia), the body’s response is to form scar tissue to stabilize the area. This scar tissue results in weaker and shorter muscle, tension on tendons (tendonitis), and nerve entrapment, which may all contribute to decreased range of motion, pain, numbness/tingling and loss of strength.
ART targets specific problem areas through applied pressure and motion of the soft tissue in order to address the underlying dysfunction.
It has been known to help with:
- neck pain
- back pain
- shoulder impingement
- rotator cuff injuries
- tennis elbow
- golfer’s elbow
- wrist pain
- hip pain
- knee pain
- ankle sprains
- carpal tunnel syndrome
- shin splints
ART may be performed by Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, and Massage Therapists.
