Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique (ART) is a non-invasive technique that involves breaking up scar tissue with deep finger pressure, to restore optimal movement to the muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves. This is accomplished by shortening the tissue, applying tension and then slowly lengthening the tissue in a manner that reorganizes scar tissue optimally. The treatment is useful in injury management as well as performance enhancement. Often the results are seen after 4–6 treatments.

This technique is effective for treating:

  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Shoulder impingement
  • Rotator cuff problems
  • Carpal Tunnel
  • Tendonitis
  • Muscle strains
  • Knee problems

ART is performed by chiropractors, physiotherapists and massage therapists.
