Cupping
Utilized by massage therapists, chiropractors and physiotherapists, cupping is a modality that was adapted from Traditional Chinese medicine.
Cupping can be a great option if you suffer from: headaches, neck pain, low back pain, sciatica, a reduced range of motion, muscle tension and adhesions.
TCM doctors and acupuncturists can use glass and fire to complete this form of therapy traditionally. However, silicone and plastic cups have been developed and those are typically what are used in the clinic.
You could describe cupping as an “inverse massage” with the result being more a suction and space creating action than the compressive forces of other modes of massage. It can also be used either statically (leaving it in one place), or dynamically (with movement of either the cup or the muscle).
