Fast Food Salad Report Card

Fast Food restaurants are not known for their healthy food options. However, you may find yourself dragged to one by your kids, co-workers, or simply stopping by for a convenient meal. By now, you may have heard that even fast food salads, regardless of the vegetables, tend to be unhealthy. But how bad are they? Look below for some ratings of salad options that can be found in fast food restaurants (all nutritional info is without dressing):

McDonald’s

  • Salad: Caesar Entrée Salad with Crispy Chicken Rating: D
Nutritional Info: Cal: 400,Total Fat: 22, Saturated Fat: 8, Sodium: 1270
The Grilled Chicken version of this salad isn’t much better. In terms of calories, fat and sodium, these salads are on par with the BLT sandwich, the Filet O’ Fish and the Bacon Cheeseburger!
  • Salad: Spicy Thai Salad with Grilled Chicken Rating: A-
Nutritional Info: Cal: 230, Total Fat: 3.5, Saturated Fat: .5, Sodium: 630
Although the vegetarian version of this salad and the Mediterranean salad technically have less calories and fat, for a little bit of lean protein, go with this salad as a more filling selection.

Burger King

  • Salad: Chicken BLT Rating: C-
Nutritional Info: Cal: 350, Total Fat: 23, Saturated Fat: 10, Sodium: 1060
For Burger King, this is actually quite healthy – but not for a salad! A Whopper Jr. has about half the fat and sodium!
  • Salad: Chicken Caesar Rating: B
Nutritional Info: Cal: 250, Total Fat: 14, Saturated Fat: 6, Sodium: 860
This salad isn’t great, but it truly is one of the best choices on the Burger King menu!
  • Arby’s
Salad: Chopper Farmhouse Crispy Chicken Rating: D
Nutritional Info: Cal: 480, Total Fat: 27, Saturated Fat: 9, Sodium: 160
Go for the Roast Chicken version and save 210 calories and 9 grams of fat.

Taco Bell

  • Salad: Fiesta Taco Salad Rating: F
Nutritional Info: Cal: 850, Total Fat: 45, Saturated Fat: 11, Sodium :1690
This salad is twice as large as those stated above, but even eating only half will do you no favours. Choose something from the Fresco menu for the healthiest options.
