How to save your back and other household tips

Are the cobwebs calling? Have you had just about enough of that closet clutter? Just thinking about all these major chores can make even the keenest homemaker’s back ache.

The Alberta College and Association of Chiropractors (ACAC) suggests cross training or varying your activities to minimize strain and injury. By varying your tasks, you not only reduce the stress on your back, but you will probably find that you accomplish more as well.

The ACAC also offers the following back saving tips:
• Warm up your muscles first, and then do some gentle stretching exercises.
• Avoid bending at the waist. Kneeling, crouching or sitting cause much less strain on the spine and back   muscles.
• When lifting, use the strength of your legs rather than your back.
• If you feel back strain or pain, take a break and try some easy back stretches.

If you experience back, muscle or joint pain, consult a chiropractor. Chiropractors are experts in these conditions and are specifically trained to diagnose and effectively treat them.
