Did You Know – March 28, 2011 – Chiropractic and NSAIDS (Over the counter drugs)
Chiropractic works on the basis or removing joint dysfunction and nerve disturbance.
What does this mean? – Abnormal motion of the vertebrae or any other joint can interfere with the
proper transmission of messages from your brain to your body and back again. This is called a
subluxation. Chiropractors remove subluxations by giving adjustments.
There are 3 stresses that can cause subluxations:
1. Physical stress – trauma, posture, the birth process, work habits, etc.
2. Chemical stress – what you eat, drink and breathe.
3. Emotional stress – family, work, money, stress, etc.
The body regulates and heals itself. Does your body need help to digest food, regulate your heart rate,
and keep a constant body temperature?
If the spinal column interferes with the nervous system, it will interfere with the body’s ability to
regulate and heal itself. So, how does Chiropractic relate to NSAIDS?
Chiropractic is the largest drugless healing art in the world. Drugs are designed for use in crisis care.
Once the body has deteriorated to the state that it experiences symptoms, drugs are prescribed, to try
and reduce the symptoms. While this approach may be effective in reducing symptoms it does not deal
with the underlying cause of the problem. These drugs can help to reduce the symptoms, but they have
to be processed by the stomach, liver and kidneys. For example the leading cause of kidney failure now
is over use of Tylenol and other drugs containing acetaminophen. The purpose of these drugs is to mask
the symptoms the body experiences.
The Chiropractic approach is a holistic method to improve overall body function by treating the cause of
the problem. An example would be the oil light that starts blinking in your car. You have two choices
with how to deal with this problem: one would be to cover up the blinking light and take care of the
symptom; the second would be to put oil in the car and correct the underlying cause of the problem.
Thomas Edison stated, “If all the medication in the world were thrown in the ocean, it would be a good
day for man, but a bad day for the fish.” Chiropractic care removes subluxations to improve symptoms
but more importantly improves your body’s function and helps get at the cause of the problem without
