Chiropractic and Blood Pressure
Chiropractic works on the basis of removing joint dysfunction and nerve disturbance.
What does this mean? – Abnormal motion of the vertebrae or any other joint can interfere with the
proper transmission of messages from your brain to your body and back again. This is called a
subluxation. Chiropractors remove subluxations by giving adjustments.
There are 3 stresses that can cause subluxations:
1. Physical stress – trauma, posture, the birth process, work habits, etc.
2. Chemical stress – what you eat, drink and breathe.
3. Emotional stress – family, work, money, stress, etc.
The body regulates and heals itself. Does your body need help to digest food, regulate your heart rate,
and keep a constant body temperature?
If the spinal column interferes with the nervous system, it will interfere with the body’s ability to
regulate and heal itself. So, how does Chiropractic relate to blood pressure?
Physical, chemical, or emotional stresses can cause abnormal blood pressure. Physically, by a lack of
exercise; chemically through poor eating habits; and emotionally due to an inability to handle stress,
unavoidable stress, sickness, death, etc. Blood pressure problems can also be caused by subluxations,
resulting from any of these stresses. Subluxations cause an imbalance in the part of your nervous
system that regulates the dilation (opening) and the constriction (closing) of your arteries, and this can
affect your blood pressure. If the diameter of you blood vessels are constricted, your blood pressure
will be high.
Chiropractors remove subluxations and offer lifestyle counseling to help balance blood pressure.
