Chiropractic and Scoliosis
Chiropractic works on the basis of removing joint dysfunction and nerve disturbance.
What does this mean? – Abnormal motion of the vertebrae or any other joint can interfere
with the proper transmission of messages from your brain to your body and back again. This is called a
subluxation. Chiropractors remove subluxations by giving adjustments.
There are 3 stresses that can cause subluxations:
1. Physical stress – trauma, posture, the birth process, work habits, etc.
2. Chemical stress – what you eat, drink and breathe.
3. Emotional stress – family, work, money, stress, etc.
The body regulates and heals itself. Does your body need help to digest food, regulate your heart rate,
and keep a constant body temperature?
If the spinal column interferes with the nervous system, it will interfere with the body’s ability to
regulate and heal itself. So, how does Chiropractic relate to scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a sideways curving of the spine that often starts in childhood when the bones are growing.
This lateral curvature of the spine can disrupt the nerves and cause problems throughout the body. The
result is decreased nerve energy that is essential for the body parts to work in harmony with each other.
Scoliosis is detected in its early stages by uneven shoulder heights, loss of structural balance, or changes
in posture. The Chiropractic approach utilizes specific spinal adjustments combined with corrective
exercises. Scoliosis with proper treatment can usually be controlled and improved.
