Chiropractic and Infants
Chiropractic works on the basis of removing joint dysfunction and nerve disturbance.
What does this mean? – Abnormal motion of the vertebrae or any other joint can interfere with the
proper transmission of messages from your brain to your body and back again. This is called a
subluxation. Chiropractors revoke subluxations by giving adjustment.
There are 3 stresses that can cause subluxations:
Physical Stress – trauma, posture, the birth process, work habits, etc.
Chemical Stress – what you eat, drink and breathe.
Emotional Stress – family, work, money stress, etc.
The body regulates and heals itself. Does your body need help to digest food, regulate your heart rate,
and keep a constant body temperature?
If the spinal column interferes with the nervous system, it will interfere with the body’s ability to
regulate and heal itself. So, how does Chiropractic relate to infants?
Chiropractic care is for everyone who wants to experience wellness, but is especially important for children. Chiropractic adjustments can make a huge difference in their lives during this period of tremendous growth. Vertebral subluxations have many causes. The first of which can be the birth process itself. Even a “normal” birth puts a tremendous amount of stress on a baby’s neck, up to 60 -70 pounds of pressure.
As babies get older they go through the process of crawling and walking and as they reach these milestones, they tend to lose their balance and fall. Bumps and falls cause trauma to the spine, which can cause the spinal bones to lose their normal position. This can put pressure on the spinal nerves, and can cause the nervous system to malfunction. The integrity of the nervous system should never be compromised because it is the system that coordinates and controls every other vital system in the body. It is important for all children to be checked by a chiropractor to ensure that they have a normally functioning nervous system.
